The HKAGE operates independently of Government bureaux to provide flexibility in management and operations. Our mission is to ensure suitable learning and development opportunities for gifted students aged 10 to 18 years. We aim to help them realise their potential in various learning domains including academic areas such as STEAM, humanities and languages, as well as non-academic areas like leadership, creativity and interpersonal skills, and their commitment to the local community.

The HKAGE can only provide services to students aged 10 to 18 who are currently studying in schools in Hong Kong.

The Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education (HKAGE) can only provide services to students aged 10 to 18 who are currently studying in a local school. In Nomination Scheme 2023/24, students are required to meet the minimum age of 10 on or before 30 September 2024 in order to apply for the "Screening Programme".

Students who have successfully passed all screenings will become HKAGE student members only by the end of the school year in June, when Secondary 6 (or equivalent to the last year in secondary school) students will be graduating from secondary schools. Therefore, applications for the HKAGE Screening Programmes from students currently in Secondary 6 will not be accepted.

Each school can arrange up to 50 students per year to apply for the Screening Programme through school application. This quota does not include applications through the parent application channel.

Each student may only apply for ONE appropriate Screening Programmes in each application.

School Coordinators/Parents should only apply for ONE appropriate Screening Programmes for each student according to his/her ability, potential and particular interest. Admitted student members can apply for most of the HKAGE programmes without domain-specific requirements.

The Screening Programmes are self-learning programmes and no fixed timetable. Students need to study the programme and complete the final assessment within the designated period.

The HKAGE Screening Programmes are divided into primary and secondary programmes, which are not further categorised according to students’ class level.

The time limit allowed for the final assessment is 60 minutes. Students may only attempt the final assessment two times at most before the deadline. Only the higher score will be counted. The questions for the second attempt (if taken) may be different from the first one.

Through the psychological assessments conducted by registered psychologists. The Hong Kong Psychological Society has a list of their registered members. (http://www.hkps.org.hk).

Screening by the HKAGE is based on Dr Joseph Renzulli’s Three-Ring Conception of Giftedness, taking into consideration whether the student could benefit from the HKAGE programme provision.

1. Above Average Abilities: General abilities: processing information, integrating experiences, and abstract thinking Specific abilities: the capacity to acquire knowledge and perform in an activity

2. Creativity: Fluency, flexibility, and originality of thought, openness to experience, sensitivity to stimulations, and a willingness to take risks

3. Task Commitment: Perseverance, endurance, hard work, self-confidence, perceptiveness and a special fascination with a special subject

In general, the HKAGE admits around 1300 new members annually but this is subject to adjustment in certain circumstances.

As these student members will still be studying in Primary 6 on admission to the HKAGE, they should successfully complete the primary common-core programme 「Let Us Shine!」during the first membership review period.

All student programmes and services are free of charge except for certain specified activities (e.g. overseas study programmes).

Most of the programmes are held at weekends or on school holidays at the HKAGE premises, HKAGE Satellite Centres or venues provided by the training service providers (e.g. universities, secondary schools, etc.).

Most of the programmes are conducted in Cantonese, but there are also programmes taught in English.

Depending on their ability and interest, primary student members may apply for secondary programmes which have no class level restriction for enrolment.
