Young STEAM Talent Award


The Young STEAM Talent Award(少年創科達人大獎)is an exciting initiative crafted to discover and cultivate exceptional students driven by a fervour for innovation, problem-solving, and creativity. The aim of this Award, jointly organised by "G3 Alliance" comprising of Centum Charitas Foundation, The Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education, and the Council of the Hong Kong Laureate Forum, is to create a dynamic platform that enables young individuals to unleash their imaginative ideas, cultivate critical thinking abilities, and make a constructive difference in their communities. By addressing the demand for talent development, we aspire to empower gifted youth to utilize their skills for the betterment of society and emerge as leaders in the realms of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices.

This Award not only serves as a talent search but also operates as a comprehensive talent development programme. Successful candidates will embark on an extraordinary voyage of self-discovery and personal growth. They will have the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in thought-provoking projects, collaborate with peers who share their passion, and receive invaluable guidance from accomplished mentors in the fields of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM).


G3 ALLIANCE


 

Centum Charitas Foundation (CCF) is a registered charitable organisation in Hong Kong which focus on nurturing and grooming outstanding youth to be role model to inspire others positively and to be change maker to address pressing social and global issues stemming from climate change and AI advancement. Leveraging on its members’ social and business resources, CCF envisions to build up a community with pool of future leaders to embrace environmental, social and governance challenges with wisdom and compassion.


The Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education (HKAGE) is a government-subvented organisation offering free off-school gifted education programmes in diverse domains for gifted students aged 10-18. Students with outstanding performance in the gifted programmes may be selected for intensive training to prepare them for different national and international competitions. The HKAGE has been striving to explore and develop new competitions as platforms for gifted students to excel in their talented areas.


The Council of the Hong Kong Laureate Forum (HKLF) is dedicated to organise the Hong Kong Laureate Forum. The Forum aspires to be a world-class academic exchange event to connect the current and next generations of leaders in scientific pursuit, as well as to promote understanding and interests of the young generation in Hong Kong and beyond in various disciplines in science and technology.


OBJECTIVES

This Award is being planned and designed with the following objectives: 

  • To enable a territory-wide search for gifted young STEAM talents in Hong Kong. 
  • To make available further learning and research opportunities for STEAM talents. 
  • To raise awareness in schools and the public on the importance of STEAM education and its possible contribution to sustainable society.
  • To nurture a pool of future STEAM talents for the advancement Hong Kong.
  • To facilitate young STEAM talents to contribute to the well-being of humankind and inspire them to become future ESG leaders.


ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible for entering this Award, applicants should meet the following criteria:

  • Secondary 3 to 6 (or equivalent) full-time students studying in a registered school in Hong Kong. 
  • Enter the Award as an individual, with no group application.
  • Must have carried out an individual or group STEAM-related project within 2 academic years prior to this Award.


SCHEDULE




CATEGORY

Applicants are required to submit ONE original and innovative STEAM-related research project report related to following categories (can be more than one category): 

  1. Physics and Mathematics
  2. Biology and Medical Science 
  3. Chemistry and Environmental Science
  4. Engineering and Innovation 
  5. Information Technology and Art Technology

  • All the information of the Young STEAM Talent Award can be downloaded from the following links:
  • After submitted Part I ("Online Registration") successfully. An acknowledgement email with login credentials will be sent to the Applicant. They are required to log into the "Application Platform" to complete remaining parts of application. 
  • Applicant who does not receive the email must contact the HKAGE by the application deadline for verification. 
  • Once the application form is submitted, no further changes can be made.
  • Late submission via means other than stated above as well as duplicated submissions will not be accepted.

NOMINATOR

Applicants must submit ONE nominator's information in competing for this Award. The nominator must be the applicant's principal or teacher from current or previous school. The nominator can nominate more than one applicant.


SUBMISSION

The deadline is the calendar date up to 15 April 2024, 5:00 p.m.. Late submissions will not be considered.

THE NURTURING PROGRAMME

Once the right students are identified and recruited, a well-structured nurturing programme that enables them to fully realise their potential and excel in their talented areas and, at the same time foster their commitment to contribution to society with innovative minds.

  • Celebrity Talks: Prestigious leaders in their fields will be invited to share their personal experiences.
  • Study Visit: Exposure to cutting-edge technology and social situations.
  • STEAM Mentorship: A mentor will be matched with reference to the Award-winners' research needs.
  • Opportunities would also be made available for the Award-winners to share their learning and research findings to the public.
