Students are interested to know about the work of a Political Assistant to Director of Bureau and grasp the opportunity to find out more.

Learning Face-to-face from a Star Speaker

Student members of the Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education (HKAGE) had the valuable opportunity to learn face-to-face from a political figure at a workshop under the Be a Future Government Official Programme co-organised by the HKAGE and The Arete, where Ms Lillian CHEONG, the then Political Assistant to the Secretary for Innovation and Technology, was invited to share her experience with the students.

Complementing Theory with Practice

The workshop covered a wide range of topics, including the organisational structure and practices of the HKSAR Government, functions and missions of principal officials, and the Political Assistant’s role and scope of work. Listening with relish and being interested in the Political Assistant’s work, participating students grasped the opportunity to ask questions after Ms CHEONG’s sharing. In the second part of the workshop, students applied what they had learnt at the mock government officials’ Q&A session and got a taste of how government officials make policy decisions by pondering over initiatives from different stakeholders.

Interacting with Innovation and Invention Enthusiasts

Apart from sharing with students interested in public governance, Ms Lillian CHEONG also interacted with a group of young innovation and invention enthusiasts in the HKAGE. She encouraged them to think about how innovative technology could be applied in our daily lives, just like the LeaveHomeSafe mobile app. Students showed great interest in the topic and participated actively in the discussion.
